Alan Shearer owns some world records to his name over his career. He scored the most goals in a 42-game season (34) and the highest number of hat-tricks in the Premier League history (11). Considering all these staggering figures, Alan deserves his status of greatest English striker of all time.

#9 Patrick Riviera

This French midfielder is a legendary captain of the club Arsenal. With his tackling as well as passing ability, Patrick Riviera has graced the Premier League, leading his team to win several top-flight titles during his career. It is no overestimation to say that The Gunners were blessed to have such a well-rounded leader in their line-up.

By the time he retired, he had won 197 caps for France, three Premier Leagues, and four FA cups, to name but a few of his amazing achievements. The figures speak for themselves!

The former captain of Chelsea deserves one place in the list as a brilliant defender in the history of the EPL. John Terry’s talent is best illustrated in his aerial ability coupled with his intelligent positioning.

In the Mourning era, there was hardly a day when the great defender made no appearance on the pitch. Chelsea firmly secured its place in the “Big Four” of PL partially thanks to his tireless contribution. John Terry took home 5 Premier League trophies with The Blues so far.

Love him or hate him; you cannot deny his essential role in the success of Chelsea.

#7 Wayne Rooney

A familiar name, right?

You may be surprised to know that the superstar made his professional debut for Evert on at the age of 16. However, he made his name famous all over the world in the line-up of Manchester United after moving there in 2004.

The leading goalscorer played a pivotal role in helping the Red Devils achieve numerous accomplishments. He had 16 trophies with the team in total, including five Premier League titles.

Especially, his bicycle kick goal against Manchester City is one of the best ever scored, hands down!

Unlike other players, Wayne Rooney maintained his incredible performance in any position given, whether it was up front, out wide or in midfield. His stable audacity, conviction, and skills are a huge source of inspiration for his counterparts.

#6 Thierry Henry

Here he is, the owner of four Golden Boots and two Premier League titles.

Thierry Henry gave his best years in his career to Arsenal where he became the team’s cutting edge. The striker was the highest goalscorer of all time of The Gunners, with 228 goals scored in all competitions.

Henry’s playing styles had a prominent influence over the game plan of the “Invincible” in the 2003/04 season. The squad went through 49 games unbeaten, a feat none other teams could ever repeat by far.

#5 Roy Keane

A vital cog in Manchester United’s game plan, we cannot forget the legend, Roy Kane.

He always made his imposing presence felt whenever staying on the pitch. With his professional skills and tackling ability, Roy Kane was the nightmare to any of Manchester’s visiting team. Believe it or not, the current standing of the Red Devils is partially owed to his name.

Roy Keane is unquestionably the most successful Irish player to have joined the English Premier League. His significant contributions to the success of Manchester United during the 1993-2005 period will never go unrecognized!

#4 Steven Gerard

The superstar has been a loyal member of Liverpool since he signed the contract with the club in 1998. He spent his entire Premier League career at Afield, becoming one of the greatest players throughout the history of Liverpool.

Steven Gerard played as a midfielder in Liverpool

He captained Liverpool to win numerous honors, including two FA Cups, three League Cups, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Cup, and two UEFA Super Cups. However, no Premier League title stayed in his collection although he came close to the trophy in 2009 and 2014.

His uncompromising presence in the midfield is surely forever embedded in the heart of Liverpool’s fans!

#3 Frank Lampard

The highlight of his career is when he played for Chelsea under Jose Mourinho. There he won multiple league titles as well as earned the club record for scoring the highest number of goals (211). Quite an impressive figure for a midfielder!

Lampard was later transferred to Manchester City and even scored against his former team. However, that is the nature of football. I bet Frank Lampard stills holds a soft spot in the heart of every Chelsea’s fan.

#2 Ryan Gigs

The list of greatest EPL players would be incomplete without his name, Ryan Gigs.

The image of the Red Devils may come to your mind right away once his name is spoken. However, it is quite surprising that Ryan Gigs started his football career with Manchester City – the biggest rival of Manchester United. Not only until his 14th birthday did he join the team of Alex Ferguson.

During 22 years of playing for Manchester United, he had scored a number of fantastic goals and achieved many top-flight titles. The legend was a member in the famous Class of 1992 with his fellow superstars David Beckham and Nicky Butt.

Ryan Giggs harbored so much love for the Red Devils that he even managed the club for a short time after his retirement.

No one has ever dominated the EPL as Ronaldo did in the 2006-2009 period.
