As an employer, you want to do everything that you can do to increase productivity among your employees. While you cannot control what they do outside of work, you can offer up suggestions of things they should do in the late afternoon or evening that can have an impact on their productivity the next day. Not only will incorporate some of these items into their routine help their productivity, but it can help to improve their mood, their morale and improve their overall life. Here are a few of the routines that you can recommend your employees to incorporate into their life to help increase their productivity.

Houston IT support expert, Jason Simons shares some of his tips to a healthy workplace.

Exercise and Move

One of the best ways to increase productivity is to get up and move. Encouraging your employees to exercise toward the end of their workday or after they are off of work has many benefits to it. Exercise has been shown to help to improve the mood of people, helps to facilitate a full night’s sleep, can help to control weight and prevent obesity, and can help to improve productivity both immediately after exercising and the next day. Toward the end of the workday, consider having a 10 or 15-minute stretching period where employees can get up and get the blood circulating. Or consider buying gym memberships for your employees or offering an in-office gym so your employees can easily workout.

Take a Micro-Nap

Another way to increase productivity is to take a micro-nap. As an employer, you may find yourself wondering why you would pay your employees to nap on the job. However, research has found that letting employees take a cat nap helps to boost their mood and their productivity. Those that stop and take a quick nap are able to complete more work during the course of their day than those that do not. So, while it may seem counterproductive to encourage your employees to sleep on the job, you may find that there are rewards that make it worth it.

Evaluate Your Workday

At the end of each workday, encourage your employees to evaluate their workday and find something positive in their day. You want them to take a look at what all they accomplished during their day. Ending the day on a good note can help employees to relax in the evening and come back to work in a better mood. Those who leave the office stressed out or in a bad mood often come back to work the next day in a bad mood. You can prevent this by allowing your employees to reflect positively on their workday.

Prepare for the Next Day

Another routine that your employees should get in the habit of is preparing for the next day. This can be done at work before they leave for the evening or at their own home. They should write down what needs to be accomplished the next day and how they can go about accomplishing these tasks. Many people worry about what needs to be done tomorrow and how they will get everything done. Coming up with a plan helps to calm anxiety and worry and increases productivity.

Get Enough Sleep

The last way to increase productivity is to get enough sleep. You should encourage your employees to get at least eight hours of solid sleep per night. Some employers have created reward programs that include things like luxury pillows, blankets or sound machines to help their employees sleep. Other employers reiterate to their employees the importance of getting plenty of sleep, including the health benefits and productivity benefits. While you cannot force your employees to go to bed, you can encourage it, which may help to boost productivity in the workplace.

As an employer, you are limited to what you can get employees to do. However, there are things that you can do to help encourage your employees to be more productive. You can offer them a gym membership or encourage them to move. You can also offer classes that help to reiterate the importance of doing certain things, such as preparing for the next day and getting enough sleep. Encouraging your employees to do each of these things in the afternoon or evening can help to increase their productivity the remainder of the day and well into the next day, which ultimately can be beneficial to both you and your employees.
