According to a few sources of the Major League Basketball whom the USA TODAY Sports had interviewed recently, stated that the league has sent a proposal to the players. The expected payment structure of the players was explained in the letter. According to the league, they want to clear off all doubts before the beginning of the 72-game season on July 14. According to the proposal, the league guarantees 80% of the prorated salaries of players if there is a postseason. In the case of a reverse scenario, the players will get 70% of their prorated salaries. There is another important announcement that is enclosed in the proposal. It is that the league wants to expand playoffs to 16 teams instead of 10 that was decided earlier on. If there is a postseason, then the expected revenue generation will be $787 million only from television.
It is of course in excess of $900 million. The league is also giving hints of the potential of 65 games in the upcoming season instead of 43 games. The people who interviewed with the USA TODAY Sports do not want to reveal their names. The obvious reason is that they have given out information despite not being the authorized people to do so. After the new proposal that has been issued on Friday, a lot of calculations are going on constantly. It seems that the player salaries will reach up to a total of $1.27 billion in the upcoming season. It is undoubtedly a thumbs-up with a rise of $300 million from the previous budget. The postseason player pool is estimated at $50 million. Further, the agency now gets a choice of whether they want a draft-pick compensation along with a free agency.
The answer to 72-game season proposal
After a couple of discussion sessions, it is now expected that the players will probably reject the proposal issued by the Major League Basketball. The main reason for the detest is of course that the players do not want to settle at a lower salary. They have demanded 100% of their prorated salaries in any case. So, the MLB Player’s Lobby will now issue a counter-proposal addressing the League authorities. The process seems lengthy but both parties are trying to come to a definite conclusion within the next two days. There is also a strong Plan B on the side of the Major Basketball League. They have decided that they will shorten the game season if they are unable to reach to a certain conclusion.
In that case, you can expect less than 60 games in the upcoming game season. Despite chances of grievances from the side of the union, shortening the game season means that the players will receive 100% of their prorated salaries. However, there is a lot of optimism and hope that both parties will reach a definite conclusion by this week itself. It is evident that the players who are willing to risk their safety for the sake of the game season would want a proper remuneration. So, let’s hope the final decision is fair enough!
